The Development Economics Study Program of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Riau, successfully held a Visiting Lecture on Friday, November 29, 2024. The event, which focused on Econometrics and Statistics, featured Akhmad Akbar Susamto, S.E., M.Phil., Chair of the Master’s in Development Economics Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada, as the main speaker.
This Visiting Lecture aimed to deepen the understanding of Development Economics students on econometrics, preparing them to apply this knowledge in both academic and professional fields. “I hope everyone can understand this material well and be able to apply it in data analysis processes,” said Ando Fahda Aulia S.E., M.E., M.BA (IB) Ph.D., the Coordinator of the Bachelor’s in Development Economics Study Program, in his opening speech.
The event, held in the new workshop room of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Riau, began at 07:30 WIB. Misdawita, S.Si., M.S.E. acted as the moderator for the session.
During his presentation, Akhmad Akbar Susamto highlighted the importance of econometrics in various economic aspects. “Some of the uses of econometrics include identifying causal relationships between variables, evaluating the impact of specific policies or programs, analyzing long-term dynamics and trends, as well as improving the accuracy of future predictions,” he explained.
The event continued with a sharing session where the speaker shared tips on how to choose thesis topics and work on theses effectively and systematically.
The session concluded with a group photo and the presentation of a certificate to the speaker, carried out by the Program Coordinator, Ando Fahda Aulia, S.E., M.E., M.BA (IB) Ph.D.
With the successful implementation of this event, the Development Economics Study Program of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Riau, hopes that students will gain a broader insight into econometrics and statistics, and be able to apply this knowledge in both their studies and the professional world.
