Pekanbaru, May 18, 2026 — The Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Riau (FEB UNRI) has again received support for the development of its Orchid Arboretum through a contribution from the Indragiri Rokan Watershed Management Center (BPDAS). This support was realized through the donation of approximately one box containing 60–70 Vanda Ascominata orchids and three large clumps of Dove Orchids to enrich the plant collection in the FEB UNRI Campus Forest area.
This assistance is part of an ongoing collaboration to support the FEB UNRI Green Campus program and to strengthen the development of the Orchid Arboretum, which is currently being developed as a space for conservation, education, and environmentally-based learning. This addition to the orchid collection is expected to further enrich the biodiversity of the FEB UNRI Forest and strengthen the campus's green space as a living laboratory.
The Dean of FEB UNRI, Dr. Hj. Alvi Furwanti Alwie, S.E., M.M., expressed her appreciation and gratitude to BPDAS Indragiri Rokan for its continued support in developing a green environment at FEB UNRI. According to him, the synergy established not only provides physical support in the form of plants, but also strengthens the spirit of collaboration in building a culture of environmental stewardship on campus.
"We express our gratitude to the Indragiri Rokan BPDAS for their support to the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNRI through the donation of orchids for the Orchid Arboretum. This is not just an addition to the plant collection, but also part of a joint effort to build a green campus space that serves educational and conservation functions, and supports the sustainability of the Green Campus at FEB UNRI," said Dr. Alvi.
Dr. Alvi added that the FEB UNRI Orchid Arboretum is part of a small, consistently developed initiative to make the FEB UNRI Forest a more vibrant learning space and provide hands-on experiences for the academic community.
“We started this Orchid Arboretum with a simple action, but with great hope. We want the FEB UNRI Forest to be not only a green space, but also a place for learning, fostering awareness, and fostering real collaboration for a more sustainable future.”
Arif Adi Suhastyo, a representative of the Indragiri Rokan BPDAS (Regional Agricultural Research and Development Agency) stated that this support aligns with the BPDAS's commitment to promoting environmental conservation and strengthening the function of green areas, including in educational settings. He stated that the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNRI (Unri) demonstrates its commitment to developing the campus forest area, which not only functions as a green open space but also has educational and conservation value.
"We see that FEB UNRI has a strong commitment to developing the campus forest area as a conservation and educational space. This orchid support represents BPDAS Indragiri Rokan's contribution to the development of the FEB UNRI Orchid Arboretum. We hope these plants will thrive and become part of a sustainable environmental conservation movement."
The development of the Orchid Arboretum is one of FEB UNRI's steps to strengthen its Green Campus identity by enriching biodiversity and strengthening the Campus Forest's function. Through collaboration with various partners, FEB UNRI hopes the area will continue to develop into a productive, educational, and sustainable green space for future generations.
