The Faculty of Economics, University of Riau was established in 1962, one year after the inauguration of the University of Riau through the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science No. 107 dated September 20, 1963. Initially, the Faculty of Economics, University of Riau (FE-UR) consisted of only 2 (two) departments: the General Economics Department (IESP) and the Business Economics Department (Management), while the Faculty of Economics was only at the Undergraduate level.

In 1987, a cooperation agreement was made for the development of the Faculty of Economics with the Faculty of Economics, University of North Sumatra (FE-USU) until 1992 to open the Bachelor's Degree Program (S1) at the Faculty of Economics. Since then, the Faculty of Economics has had 3 (three) undergraduate programs: Development Economics, Management, and Economics. As the oldest university in Riau Province, the Faculty of Economics, University of Riau is a source of pride for the community.

Furthermore, the University of Riau also serves as a development agent and a source of change that drives technological advancement and community welfare in this region, particularly in Riau Province.
