When Water Carries a Message of Virtue, Unri’s Faculty of Economics and Business Establishes a Waqf-Based Water Statio

Pekanbaru, 11 December 2025 — The Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Riau (FEB Unri) held a follow-up meeting to discuss plans for developing a water station through a cash waqf scheme, which is targeted to begin implementation in 2026.

The meeting took place in the Meeting Room on the 2nd Floor of the FEB Unri Dean’s Building, led by the Dean of FEB Unri and attended by a team consisting of Dr. Eka Armas Pailis, S.E., M.M., Ahmad Fauzan Fathoni, S.E., M.Sc., and Darmayuda, S.E., M.Si., who are FEB Unri lecturers as well as waqf nazhir.

The Dean of FEB Unri, Dr. Hj. Alvi Furwanti Alwie, S.E., M.M., together with the team, followed up on the initiative to develop a water station as one of the implementations of the FEB Unri Green Campus program. This initiative is expected to become a symbol of goodwill and environmental awareness through the provision of clean drinking water, while also creating opportunities for the academic community to contribute through waqf.

“Waqf-based water stations are not merely physical facilities, but part of a culture of kindness we aim to cultivate within the campus environment. We want to create facilities that offer long-term benefits. This waqf-based water station not only provides clean drinking water but also imparts values of compassion, spirituality, and sustainability. Every drop that is used becomes a prayer and a stream of ongoing good deeds,” said Dr. Alvi.

The plan to build the water station had actually been envisioned for quite some time. Through the waqf scheme and the support of the nazhir, the program is considered to have strong potential for sustainability, especially in terms of long-term maintenance and operational needs.

The meeting also highlighted the cash waqf system that will be used. This scheme is planned to involve the FEB Alumni Association (IKAFE) as a collaborative partner, enabling broader participation in the waqf initiative. Moving forward, the cash waqf is also planned to be accessible digitally through a mobile-based application to facilitate donations.

Through this waqf-based water station, FEB students, staff, and lecturers will gain access to fresh and clean drinking water without needing to purchase bottled products. This initiative supports the FEB Unri Green Campus program in reducing plastic waste while also raising awareness about the importance of protecting the environment.
