Pekanbaru, 11 November 2025 — A modern campus today is judged not only by its academic quality, student achievements, or completeness of facilities, but also by its concern for environmental sustainability. Issues of climate change and the growing public awareness of nature conservation have made the green campus concept a necessity. One concrete manifestation of this commitment is through campus environmental greening programs.
Responding to this challenge, the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Riau (FEB UNRI) launched an environmental innovation called the “Tree Bank.” This program is a systematic initiative to plant and maintain trees across the campus as a concrete step toward creating a sustainable, cool, and environmentally friendly setting. The Tree Bank program is not merely symbolic; it is designed as a continuous movement with a structured management system, ranging from seedling provision and planting to long-term maintenance.

“The concept and effectiveness of the Tree Bank as a green campus innovation” have been examined in a scientific study published in the journal Tree Bank Program as a Green Campus Innovation at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Riau — accessible through:: https://jiana.ejournal.unri.ac.id/index.php/JIANA/article/view/8320/6315 Jiana
The Tree Bank Program is positioned as part of FEB UNRI’s green campus innovation that involves all elements of the academic community—lecturers, administrative staff, students, and even external partners. The involvement of these various parties underscores that environmental conservation is not the responsibility of a single group, but a shared commitment.
In its implementation, FEB UNRI has also demonstrated strong dedication by establishing collaborations with various strategic partners. Recently, FEB UNRI collaborated with Pertamina Patra Niaga Sales Area (SA) Riau and the Watershed Management Agency (BPDAS) Indragiri Rokan of the Ministry of Forestry to carry out tree-planting activities in the FEB UNRI forest area. This activity is part of the campus greening program while also supporting reforestation efforts as a concrete expression of concern for the environmental ecosystem.

This Tree Bank initiative carries broader significance amid the growing environmental awareness movement in Riau Province. The program is not only oriented toward improving air quality and reducing carbon footprints, but also plays an important role in building collective awareness, social responsibility, and long-term environmental commitment within the academic community.
Through the Tree Bank program, FEB UNRI affirms its role not only as a center of education and scientific development, but also as an agent of social change actively involved in environmental preservation. More than simply planting trees, this program serves as a symbol of FEB UNRI’s commitment to creating a green, healthy, and sustainable campus environment for future generations.
