Pekanbaru, June 24, 2025 — In commemoration of World Environment Day 2025, the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at Universitas Riau organized a series of events under the theme “FEB Go Green, Go Clean, Go Sustainable” on Tuesday (June 24) within the FEB campus environment.
The event was attended by students, lecturers, academic staff, and several invited guests from both within and outside the university. It was officially opened by the Dean of FEB Universitas Riau, Dr. Hj. Alvi Furwanti Alwie, SE., MM. In her opening remarks, she emphasized that environmental issues are not solely the responsibility of environmental scientists, but require real contributions from all fields, including academia.
“This commemoration of World Environment Day is an important moment for all of us, especially the academic community of FEB, to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable development. The world of business and economics must be part of the solution, not the source of the problem,” said Dr. Hj. Alvi Furwanti Alwie, SE., MM.
The Dean also introduced several programs to be implemented on the FEB campus, including Tree Bank, Recycle to Cash, Tree Enrichment, Our Trees for Our Earth, and the Acoustic Academica Unri Art Performance.
Meanwhile, a representative from the Riau Provincial Department of Environment and Forestry also expressed appreciation for the campus’ active role:
“We appreciate the FEB UNRI movement in creating a green campus ecosystem. Programs like these are very much in line with the government’s agenda for community-based environmental restoration.”
The activities began with the symbolic handover of orchid seedlings by Mr. Eko Nurwijayanto, S.Hut., M.Si (Head of the Indragiri Rokan Watershed Management Agency) to the Dean of FEB, followed by an environmental keynote speech from WALHI representative Umi Ma'rufah, and a cultural performance by FEB student art troupe.
The event concluded with the planting of various tree seedlings by the Dean and all attendees in the FEB campus area, including durian, longan, mango, rambutan, jengkol, and more.
Through this initiative, FEB Universitas Riau reaffirmed its commitment to supporting environmental awareness and promoting sustainability principles in education, research, and student entrepreneurship.
