Pekanbaru — The commemoration of National Education Day (Hardiknas) 2026 took place solemnly on the campus of the University of Riau (UNRI) on Saturday, May 2, 2026. The ceremony was attended by all academics and higher education community members as a reflection of the shared commitment to realizing quality and inclusive education.

Acting as the Master of Ceremony, Prof. Dr. Hermandra, M.A, Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni, led the event with full discipline and enthusiasm. The ceremony began with the raising of the Red and White flag, followed by the reading of the national mandate, from the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Brian Yuliarto, who conveyed that education is not just a classroom, books, or numbers, but is a strategic medium to address the various complex challenges facing the nation. Cross-sector collaboration between the government, society, families, businesses, universities, and communities is the key to building quality and equitable education.

The event continued with the awarding of the Satyalancana honorary medal, a form of state appreciation to State Civil Apparatus (ASN) and educators who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to the nation and state. The Satyalancana Karya Satya award is given to a number of ASN who have served continuously for 10, 20, or 30 years according to the provisions of government honorary medals. This Satyalancana is one of the honorary medals in Indonesia awarded by the President of the Republic of Indonesia for long service and dedication in public service and education.

On this occasion, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at UNRI, Dr. Hj. Alvi Furwanti Alwie, S.E., M.M., stated that National Education Day 2026 is not merely a ceremonial commemoration, but also a momentum to strengthen collaboration among all education stakeholders at the local and national levels.
"Quality education can only be achieved when all elements, from elementary to higher education—teachers, lecturers, students, and the wider community—work together to educate the nation," Dr. Alvi emphasized.
