On August 24, 2024, the Faculty of Economics and Business at Riau University (FEB UNRI) held a significant meeting with the Faculty of Business and Accounting at Universiti Selangor. The meeting was attended by the Dean of FEB UNRI, Dr. Hj. Alvi Furwanti Alwie, S.E., M.M., and the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Accounting at Universiti Selangor, Prof. Dr. Norhayyah Zulkifli. The event aimed to strengthen academic and professional relationships between the two institutions and discuss various important issues in the fields of accounting and business. The hope is that this meeting will enhance collaboration and contribute more significantly to higher education.
Several key topics were discussed in depth during the meeting. Accountability and Governance were addressed, emphasizing the importance of accountability and good governance as the foundation for transparent and responsible operations. Additionally, the issue of Professionalism and Ethics in Accounting was highlighted, stressing the importance of integrity and ethics in accounting practices, particularly in the era of globalization, which demands adaptation to changes in regulations and technology. The discussion then moved to Re-positioning Conventional Accounting, focusing on the need for traditional accounting to adapt to technological advancements such as blockchain and AI. Other topics, such as Environmental Accounting and Reporting and Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG), were also on the agenda, with a focus on how companies can enhance sustainability and social responsibility through more transparent reporting and the application of ESG principles.
The meeting also emphasized the importance of innovation in the accounting profession to address future challenges. Both deans agreed that changes and adaptations in accounting practices are necessary for the profession to remain relevant and provide significant added value.
The event concluded with a mutual commitment from both faculties to strengthen collaboration in the future. The discussions held are expected to serve as a foundation for more intensive cooperation, including joint research, student and staff exchanges, and curriculum development aligned with current industry needs. Through this collaboration, both faculties hope to collectively address global challenges in the business and accounting world and make a positive impact on society.
